Alternative Education Provision Across Essex

SEN, ENGAGEMENT & PERSONALISED SUPPORT

Our provision is delivered by experienced tutors and a qualified teacher (QTS, PGCE) with extensive backgrounds supporting young people with Autism, ADHD, ADD, ODD, task avoidance, and complex behavioural and emotional needs. Support is fully young person-centred, focusing on understanding individual triggers, communication styles, sensory needs, and emotional wellbeing.

Through consistent 1:1, face-to-face support, tutors create a calm, structured, and predictable environment where young people feel safe, supported, and able to engage in learning. Teaching strategies are adapted continuously to meet individual needs, with immediate responses to emotional or behavioural challenges to maintain engagement and progress.

To reduce anxiety and increase participation, sessions begin with short, engaging tasks tailored to the young person’s interests and attention span. Using a scaffolded approach, activities gradually increase in duration and challenge, supported by positive reinforcement, consistent routines, and meaningful motivators. Over time, this supports greater independence, confidence, resilience, and self-regulation.

GUIDE JOURNAL & LIFE SKILLS

Our provision also includes access to the in-house GUIDE Journal, a self-paced life skills programme designed for teenagers and young adults. The journal supports emotional wellbeing, self-awareness, independence, social skills, healthy routines, employability, and online safety through structured but accessible activities, reflections, and achievable milestones. This approach helps young people move from feeling overwhelmed and disengaged towards becoming more motivated, emotionally regulated, and capable in everyday life.

COMMUNICATION & SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Tutors are experienced in supporting young people with communication and social interaction difficulties. A range of communication strategies are used, including PECS, Makaton, and visual timetables, helping young people express their needs, reduce frustration, and build independence.

By maintaining a patient, flexible, and consistent approach, tutors help young people improve emotional regulation, communication skills, confidence, and social interaction, supporting increased engagement in learning and readiness for future education pathways.

BOXING, EXERCISE & WELLBEING

A unique aspect of the provision is its non-contact boxing and exercise programme, designed to support emotional regulation, focus, and overall wellbeing. Boxing provides a safe outlet for cathartic release while promoting positive mood changes, confidence, and engagement. Additional exercise activities support physical fitness, motor skill development, executive functioning, and routine-building through structured and repetitive activities.

MENTAL HEALTH & EMOTIONAL SUPPORT

The team also brings extensive experience supporting individuals with mental health needs, including anxiety, OCD, depression, and eating disorders. Support is delivered in a safe, non-judgemental, and person-centred manner, helping young people build coping strategies, resilience, and emotional awareness while working collaboratively with families and professionals where appropriate.

SENSORY & LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

The provision is designed to minimise sensory overwhelm, with a calm, climate-controlled environment, carefully managed lighting, small group sizes, and strong safeguarding measures. Sensory sensitivities around food and eating can also be accommodated through timetable adaptations and separate facilities to ensure young people remain regulated and able to engage consistently.

BOXSMART & ASDAN COURSES

The Boxsmart programme supports young people in developing healthy relationships, social awareness, decisionmaking skills, confidence, and online safety awareness through structured sessions focused on respect, boundaries, communication, and digital safety. As an approved ASDAN provider, the provision also offers accredited vocational and academic pathways that develop life skills, independence, employability, literacy, numeracy, and confidence through practical and engaging learning experiences.
